Baked Ziti
Submitted by Bartel & Danelle Van Oostendorp - added 8/17/26
This recipe came from Bartel's mom who is a chef 👩🏼🍳
Ingredients
- Noodles:
- 16 oz. box of penne or mostaccioli noodles (use most of box if using a 9x13 pan, or all of the box if using slightly bigger than 9x13)
- Red Sauce:
- 1 lb. of hamburger meat or sausage (I like tube of spicy Jimmy Dean)
- 1 onion finely chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic minced
- 1 large bottle (~40 oz.) of Prego traditional spaghetti sauce
- White Sauce:
- 4 TB of butter
- 1 cup whipping cream
- 8 oz. softened package of cream cheese
- 1 clove of garlic minced
- 1/3 cup of parmesan cheese
- Topping:
- Mozzarella cheese
Instructions
- Boil pasta. Do not overcook! Drain water and put in pan.
- While pasta is cooking, cook meat with onion and garlic. Drain. Pour red sauce over meat mixture and return to heat until warm. Set aside.
- In a small pan melt butter then add whipping cream, cream cheese, garlic, and parmesan cheese. Whisk together 1-2 minutes or until it thickens a little. Pour this white sauce over noodles and evenly distribute.
- Spoon red sauce over top of noodles. Top with mozzarella cheese.
- Bake uncovered at 350°F for 20-30 minutes or until cheese is melted.
- This will fill a 9x13 pan VERY full. I usually put a piece of tin foil at the bottom of the oven to catch any spills.
- Note: This can be made the day before, just leave off mozzarella cheese topping and add it the last 15 min of baking time. When cold, it will need about an hour to cook.
